“Lovely Lies” is a dreamy, indie track released by Long Island’s Zak Reyes earlier this month. I’ve had the opportunity to see Zak perform live during the VIP Brunch at last year’s STATTfest and immediately grew enamored with the way he was able to translate such raw emotions into beautiful acoustics and rhythm loops. We ended up working together a couple of times for some promotional photo shoots of his and I can tell you without a doubt that Zak is one of the most authentic and sincere people I’ve ever met. No matter how well you know Zak, his character clearly shines in his writing and performances.
“‘Lovely Lies’ is a song I started about 2 years ago originally called ‘already gone’.” Zak wrote to me about the track, “It’s about that other person who tells you everything you want to hear just for you to find out they were lying and hurting you in the end.” The ebb and flow of this track is what immediately brings a listener in; the pace and emotion instantly reminded me of the musical stylings of Blackbear. To say I had the chorus of “Lovely Lies” stuck in my head constantly seems like such an understatement: I have always been a fan of lowkey, moody tones in a song, and coupled with Zak’s character and rhythm makes this an expertly made track. The electronic elements bring this track a new level of mood and ambience; like adding whiskey on rocks, every piece in this track is so unique but only serve to enhance each other in the best way possible.
If you haven’t already, be sure to check out “Lovely Lies” wherever you listen to music and be sure to follow his social medias for future releases!
